Maybe you are looking for inspiration for your garden or you didn’t get around to gardening this year and are looking for something to admire. Or maybe you just need to get out of the house and relax in nature for a bit. We are lucky to have several beautiful public gardens within driving distance so you can stay close to home yet still get outside for some rest, relaxation and maybe a little inspiration.

If you have 1-2 hours:

Evergreen Arboretum & Gardens
145 Alverson Blvd, Everett, WA 98201

Open daily 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Free

When you pull into the parking lot head South to find this 3.5-acre north Everett garden featuring themed gardens, sculptures and walking paths. After taking in the arboretum, cross the parking lot and take a stroll through American Legion Memorial Park to enjoy the beautiful old trees and views of Port Gardner.

McCollum Park Demonstration Garden
600 128th St SE, Everett, WA 98208

Open daily 7 a.m. to Dusk

Free

This south Everett destination is sure to inspire some new ideas for your garden. Funded, designed and maintained by Snohomish County Master Gardener Foundation, the garden is intended to demonstrate different planting styles, themes and techniques. If you plan ahead you can snag reservations for the Northwest Stream Center just next door. It is now open with strict social distancing guidelines. You don’t even need to move your car to access the Forest Loop Trail and the NorthCreek Trail as well.

If you have 3+ hours

Kruckeberg Botanic Garden
20312 Fifteenth Avenue NW, Shoreline, WA 98177

Saturday and Sundays March thru October 10 am - 5 pm and November thru February 10 am - 3pm

Free

This 4-acre botanical garden in Shoreline is currently a private residence open to the public. It includes over 2,000 species of both native and exotics in a naturalistic wooded setting. They also have four Champion trees. Admission is free, but you can also pay for a docent-led private tour.

Earth Sanctuary
2059 Newman Rd, Langley, WA 98260

Open daily during daylight hours

$7 entry fee + ferry boat ride

Perhaps it is an understatement to call Earth Sanctuary just a botanical garden. It is a 72-acre nature reserve of trails that wind around a peat bog and waterfowl ponds. You will find Tibet Tech prayer wheels, a Native American medicine wheel, sculptures and cairns big and small. Pack some water and a snack and take your time to enjoy this treasure.

You should be able to easily social distance in these outdoor spaces, but remember to keep a face mask in your pocket so you can put it on should you come across other nature lovers.
