Four Fun Things: Family Swim Spots

Four Fun Things: Family Swim Spots

Ready to get back into things after the pandemic pause? Summer is here, and it's time to plan summer swim outings. Even with the continued closure of the Forest Park and McCollum Park pools, we still have some excellent swimming places.

Everett Family YMCA
4730 Colby Ave
Everett, WA 98203
(425) 258-9211

Do you know that if you live in the City of Everett, you don't need to be a YMCA member to swim in the Everett Family YMCA pool? The city has a swim partnership with the YMCA, and Everett residents can purchase a reduced-price resident day pass. A background check and proof of residency are required, and you can stop by the Y and get that taken care of ahead of time.

The Y has lap and recreation pools, a river and an area with play equipment. You'll want to check the pool schedule because available hours depend on which area you plan to use.

Yost Pool
9535 Bowdoin Way
Edmonds, WA 98020

Yost Pool is an excellent alternative to McCollum for an outdoor public pool experience. The pool is staffed with lifeguards for a piece of mind if you have little ones. Open swim on weekdays is from 1:15 to 3:15 pm and on weekends from 12:15 to 6:45.

Lake Goodwin Community Park
4620 Lakewood Rd
Stanwood, WA 98292

Lake Goodwin Community Park is a great spot to take kids, especially the little ones, if you're willing to drive a bit. The beach is sandy with lots of shallow areas for the littles to splash and play. There is a dock for jump-ins, and the bigger kids like to play in the deeper water on the lake side of the dock. There are restrooms, showers and a playground. It's a good idea to get there early because parking is limited.

Picnic Point Park
7231 Picnic Point Road
Edmonds, WA 98036

If you don't mind the cool waters of the Salish Sea, Picnic Point is a fun spot to wade and jump waves. Like most PNW beach experiences, you'll take an overpass to get over the train tracks, where it opens up to a beach much more expansive than you'll find at local favorite spots, Howarth Park and Lighthouse Park. Parking at Picnic Point is limited so if you’re going on a hot, sunny weekend, you’d better get there early.
