4 Reasons We Love Playoff Hockey

4 Reasons We Love Playoff Hockey

The Everett Silvetips are WHL U.S. Division Champions this season, which means another round of playoff hockey is coming to Angel of the Winds Arena for the 16th time in 16 years.

We love hockey in general, but we especially love playoff hockey. Here’s 4 reasons why:

The Atmosphere

Playoff hockey brings out the best in players and fans. The action on the ice is faster and more intense, the crowd is louder, the beer is somewhat colder and the popcorn is just a little bit saltier. Sitting elbow-to-elbow in a sold out Angel of the Winds arena while the Silvertips chase the Memorial Cup deep into spring is very, very special.

The Pregame

There’s so much to eat and drink around Angel of the Winds Arena, so the options for pregaming (or postgame!) are many.

  • Brooklyn Bros. Pizzeria has pizza by the slice or whole pies, but get there early. The lines are sometimes out the door!

  • That Chicken Place just opened and is just up the block, serving up fried chicken and chicken sandwiches.

  • The Independent Beer Bar has a robust taplist, Russian-style dumplings and specials on game days.

  • El Paraiso is Chris Lamoureux’s favorite place to pregame. During the regular season players will serve guests as part of the “Tip-A-Tip” night.

The Community

We love Silvertips fans. We’ve been sponsors since the beginning. The support the fans show for the team, Everett Youth Hockey and so many other non-profits and causes in Snohomish County is something special, and playoff season is when we can really be loud and proud about our Tips.

The Quest

Despite the Silvertips making the playoffs every year since their inception in 2003, the team hasn’t won the WHL Championship, falling twice in the Finals (including last year). With the team as strong as it is, maybe this year is the year the Tips can bring the trophy home to Everett for the first time. Here’s hoping!

We’ll see you at the rink. Let’s go Tips!
