Four Fun Things: Sub Shop #26 in Everett
When we opened Lamoureux Real Estate in 2004, Sub Shop #26 had already been in the neighborhood for 19 years! We're lucky to have this affordable, delicious option so close, and because owner Wai Eng (the Sub Man) is back in the shop after a recent cancer surgery, we wanted to encourage everyone to stop by for your first sandwich there, or go again if it's been a while. Here are four fun things you should know:
BRING CASH
It's not uncommon for a small business with a busy owner to ask for cash only. When you're a sole proprietor working six days a week, why give a cut of the profits to a credit card company? Small bills are ideal but you can always let him keep the change.
PERFECT FOR SHARING
The Sub Man piles his fresh-cut meats and cheeses on a big, soft roll for the half sub, and two of them for a full. That means if you get a full sub to share with a friend, you don't even have to cut it. Or you can just save that other half for yourself, we won't tell. Four-foot party subs are available with one day's notice, perfect for when we're finally able to have parties again.
THE SUB MAN LOVES HIS LOYAL FANS
It may take a little longer because of masks, but the Sub Man will learn your order and if he sees you parking, might even have it ready for you by the time you get to the counter. And you'll want to come back again and again. We have a friend who used to ride the bus up after classes at Edmonds Community College.
"26" IS JUST A NUMBER
Sometimes the business is listed as Sub Shop #26, and sometimes just Sub Shop. The Sub Man says everyone has a favorite or lucky number and there's nothing more to say about it. But speaking of numbers, most listings for Sub Shop have an old phone number. Call 206-434-9575 to order ahead.
Obviously, the Sub Man knows what he's doing if he's been in business since 1985. Isn't it time you found out the secret to his success?
