Seasonal Delights: Best Places to Fly Kites

Seasonal Delights: Best Places to Fly Kites

When was the last time you flew a kite? Chances are it's been far too long. There’s something remarkably delightful about the simple pleasure of pulling strings in the wind. So grab a kite and check out these local spots for flying it high. We bet you won't regret it!

Forest Park
802 E. Mukilteo Blvd.
Everett, WA 98203

While not very far inland, Forest Park is the furthest location from the water on our list. With a huge open grassy area at the top of a hill, you’ll have plenty of room to let you kite zoom. Since the elevation of Forest Park is higher than the other locations on our list, you’ll likely have good wind. And if it turns out to be a bust, thankfully Forest Park still offers plenty of alternative activities such as a playground, walking trails, basketball courts, and more.

Harborview Park
1621 Mukilteo Blvd.
Everett, WA 98203

Just down the street from Forest Park alongside Mukilteo Boulevard is a massive grassy field overlooking the Salish Sea and Downtown Everett. The views are phenomenal here. And the lack of trees between you and the sea makes for ideal conditions to let your kite soar. While you won't find any extra amenities here, there are a number of benches if you decide to bring your own picnic.

Lighthouse Park
609 Front Street
Mukilteo, WA 98275

Even closer to the water, Lighthouse Park at Mukilteo Beach has plenty of room for your kiting adventures. Fly your kite high above the lighthouse while skipping rocks and watching the ferries go by. Parking will cost you a few bucks, so while you’re there you might as well go eat at Diamond Knot, a long-time local-favorite brewery with an all-ages area and awesome menu.

Boxcar Park
1200 Millwright Loop West
Everett, WA 98201

We don’t always save the best for last, but this time around we certainly did. If there is any park in the area known for being a kite-flying destination, it is Boxcar Park. The large grassy park sits at the Westernmost edge of the Everett waterfront. Other kiters will likely be there, so be inspired while making sure to not get your lines crossed. And if you’re unsure how the wind is on any given day, just take a peek out at Jetty Island where you can’t miss the large colorful floating masses from all the kiteboarders. When they’re out, it’s always a sure sign the wind is good.
