Four Fun Things: Green Everett Partnership

Four Fun Things: Green Everett Partnership

Do you know that Everett’s forested parks and natural areas have stewards to keep them sustainable and healthy? Here’s four things to know about Green Everett Partnership.

PARTNERSHIP

Everett Parks and Forterra joined forces in 2012 to create Green Everett Partnership. Forterra has been working in Washington State for over 30 years to support a healthy environment through land transactions, stewarding land, engaging communities and conceiving and advancing policies.

VOLUNTEERS

Volunteer Forest Stewards in Everett work with community volunteers to improve the health of our forested parks and natural areas. Forest Stewards are trained and very knowledgeable about invasive species such as English ivy and archangel that are harmful to the ecosystem. They will provide community volunteers with the tools and knowledge on how to identify and remove the invasive species. With 354 acres of urban forest in Everett, more Forest Stewards are needed. You can learn more by emailing Green Everett or calling 206-204-8052.

WORK PARTIES

Work parties are planned throughout the year at several parks. You will need to register so they know how many people to expect. You can find upcoming events here or on Facebook. Sign up for their mailing list to receive a monthly email.

20 YEAR PLAN

Green Everett Partnership has a 20-year plan to improve the diversity and health of our urban forest. The plan includes improving quality-of-life for residents and all the benefits an urban forest provides including clean air and water, stormwater retention, wildlife habitat and access to recreation. You can read the plan here

We're thankful to have the Green Everett Partnership and community members stepping up to help keep Everett’s green spaces thriving for generations to come. How do you feel about Everett’s green spaces? Do you have a favorite park or trail? Drop us a comment over on our Facebook.
