Four Fun Things: Day Trippin’ to Whidbey

Four Fun Things: Day Trippin’ to Whidbey

There are so many great things to explore on Whidbey Island and on the way there. We like to drive to the island via Deception Pass Bridge and then take the Mukilteo/Clinton ferry boat home. The boat lines are much more reasonable on the island side, and it costs less too because you don’t need to pay for passengers. Make sure to pack a cooler so you can pick up goodies to bring home. There are always fun things to explore on your journeys, like Deception Pass, Ebey Landing and Double Bluff Beach, but here are four of our must-stop spots on a trip to Whidbey Island.

Snow Goose Produce

We like to take the winding route to Whidbey through Fir Island and take exit 221 off I-5 and head west. About 5 miles in you’ll see Snow Goose Produce and wonder why there are so many people there. Stop and take a look. It’s an excellent stop for produce, flowers, and ice cream. The ice cream line is often very long but seems to go fast, and we assure you it is worth the wait!

La Connor

Next stop, again before you even get to Whidbey, is La Connor. They have a ton of great shops to browse, all within walking distance. There’s something for everyone, including an independent book store, art supply shop, Italian pottery, and don’t forget Nasty Jack’s Antiques.

Coupeville

We usually try to plan our trip so we land in Coupeville for lunch because Ciao Food & Wine has the most fantastic pizza - green pizza. It’s basically a salad on house-baked flatbread. They have three types on the menu. We’ve tried them all, and they are unforgettable. Coopville has a lot of other things to offer, but we always go for Ciao green pizzas.

Greenbank Farm

Greenbank Farm is a nice stop before you head to the ferry line. It’s just off Highway 525 and about 17 miles from the dock. If you brought your dog, they have a great off-leash area for exploring, or you can wander around to birdwatch. Stock up on cheeses and stop at the wine shop for great recommendations. Don’t forget to pick up a freshly baked pie to take home.
